Backpacks As Purses

This fall, backpacks continue to be everywhere.  And, they are beautiful!  They offer a practical yet stylish alternative to a purse.  Almost every designer has created a version of the backpack.  Have a look at some of the styles out there:

Here are some options to consider when choosing a backpack:

  • Size: Bigger if you want to use it for work or school; smaller if it is more of a purse
  • Material: Leather and canvas are more durable than cloth
  • Detachable Straps: Some flat-bottomed handbags have straps to convert the purse into one you can carry on your back – it’s basically a 2-in-1
  • Ergonomics: Having a backpack means you can even out the weight you are carrying and improve your posture (assuming you don’t sling the backpack over one shoulder!)
  • Packability and Weight: Backpacks made with softer and thinner leathers or materials can be folded and collapsed — and come in handy for travel
  • Bling: Backpacks with studs or chains are practical while make a fashion statement
  • Designer: Almost every designer has a backpack out this fall, so if you favor a brand, check out their version of the backpack

I recently bought the Longchamp Le Pliage Backpack in navy, mainly because it is light, mid-sized, and easily folded for travel.

Let me know which backpack you are carrying!

    1. It took me a while to figure out which color, but I love the size and know I will use it a lot!

  1. I have a Le Pilage backpack too! I’m completely addicted to this type of carry-all. Really wanting a the Hershel black with large polka-dots I recently saw on Queen West. Ciao!

    1. Glad you love your Le Pliage. The Hershel backpacks are cool, too, and very popular with the kids, too!

    1. In Toronto, I have seen the Longchamp Le Pliage at the Longchamp store in Yorkdale, Betty Hemmings in Yorkville, and Holts on Bloor St. Let me know which color you end up choosing!

    1. It’s such a perfect bag, for everyday wear and also for travel. Hope you love it if you get one!
